Welkom bij de Foursome Club of Holland
Een foursome club sinds 1948De Foursome Club of Holland is een heren-gezelschap van Nederlandse oud golf-internationals, aangevuld met een aantal leden die anderszins veel voor het Nederlandse golf betekend hebben. Het lidmaatschap is op uitnodiging en wij hebben ca 50 leden. Het jongste lid is ca 35 en het oudste lid ca 90 jaar oud. Wij bestaan sinds 1948 en spelen sindsdien elk voor- en najaar een onderlinge wedstrijd, waarbij er zowel s’ochtends als s’middags uitsluitend foursomes gespeeld wordt. Daarnaast spelen wij uit- en thuiswedstrijden tegen een aantal buitenlandse foursome gezelschappen, waaronder The Wigorns (Blackwell Golf Club), The Windcheaters (Royal County Down Golf Club) en The Hittites (Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale en Formby Golf Club). Naast het beoefenen van het edele foursomespel -waarbij er nog steeds volgens de stymie-regel wordt gespeeld- wordt er op speeldagen uitgebreid geluncht, geborreld en gedineerd, zodat de onderlinge vriendschapsbanden voortdurend worden versterkt.
The Foursome Club of Holland is the only Foursome Golfing Society in the Netherlands. We were officially founded in 1948, although our founders had played foursomes against a team at Royal St Georges’ long before then. After yet another defeat in 1948 they decided (aboard the SS Aruba from Harwich to Hoek van Holland) to form a foursome golfing society. Our society currently has around 50 members, most of whom belong to one of the nine original private golf clubs in The Netherlands. The youngest member is around 35 and the oldest around 90 years of age and all of them have either played for the Dutch National Team or have done important work for Dutch golf or the Royal Dutch Golf Federation. The membership is by invitation only. We don’t have a home-course as such, but have our meetings at one of the many interesting Dutch golf courses instead. We have a Spring- and an Autumn meeting “amongst ourselves” and furthermore we play international fixtures at home and away against The Wigorns (Blackwell Golf Club), The Windcheaters (Royal County Down Golf Club) and The Hittites (Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale and Formby Golf Club).
